Richard J. Pearce “Rick”
Board of Directors

placeholder

Rick received a BSIE from North Carolina State University and a MHA from the Medical College of Virginia. In 1973, at age 25 he became the Administrator/CEO of an independent 385-bed specialty hospital in Virginia, being the youngest to do so at that time. He led that organization through a merger with a 641-bed tertiary care hospital, forming one of the first regional multi-hospital systems in the country. In the larger organization, he served in a variety of capacities, including facility Administrator, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operations Officer, and ultimately President and Chief Executive Officer, retiring in 2012.  At his retirement, the organization had revenues of approximately $1.0 billion, operating hospitals, life care facilities, wellness centers, and one of the largest physician groups in the country.

Rick is a lifelong “gearhead”,  having loved cars and motorsports since childhood. Rick completed advanced training at both the Bondurant School of High-Performance Driving and the Skip Barber Racing School and participated and instructed at numerous HPDE (high-performance driving experience) events, primarily at Virginia International Raceway (VIR). For several years he was a partner in a Superformance/Shelby American dealership, selling high-performance street and race cars. Although his lap times have become significantly slower with age, his interest and enthusiasm have not,  and he anticipates great success and growth at NCCAR.

Rick has been married to wife Cathy for over 50 years. They reside in southeast coastal Virginia.
