Until retiring in late 2019, Gary Brown served for more than twenty-seven years as Executive Director of the Northampton County (NC) Economic Development Commission, leading the county’s public sector initiatives in generating and sustaining economic growth.  During those years, industrial employment in the county increased by more than 500%, the value of industrial properties increased by more than ten-fold, and the county’s private sector wage average improved from 95th lowest to 45th among North Carolina’s one hundred counties.

Gary previously served as field representative for North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt, as a staff member on several state and national political campaigns, and as a regional economic and community development specialist with Western Carolina University.

Gary received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Western Carolina University; certification in Industrial Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology; and graduated from the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma. Gary was ordained a Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church of the United States in 1977, and is a long-standing member of both the North Carolina Economic Developers Association and the International Economic Development Council. With his wife Lynne, he resides in the Town of Conway.
