Mr. David B. King

Mr. King has been a lifelong resident of the Roanoke Valley area and brings an entrepreneurial background to the NCCAR Board of Directors. He co-founded and currently serves as Chief Operating Officer of American Waste Systems, Inc. (AWS) a regional, full service solid waste company.

Starting with 1 truck and 5 dumpsters in 2004, AWS currently has operations in 14 markets spanning North & South Carolina. AWS’ sister company, Southern States Logistics, Inc., transports municipal solid waste and coal ash from transfer stations to Subtitle D Landfills on a contract basis. Mr. King also serves as President and co-founder of Interstate Storage & Distribution, an industrial warehousing and trucking company serving corporate clients in the Roanoke Valley.

Prior to joining the NCCAR Board, Mr. King served for 8 years on the Roanoke Rapids City Council (the last 2 as Mayor Pro Tem), the Northeast Economic Development Commission, and as Chairman of the Halifax-Northampton Regional Airport Authority.

He is a 1988 graduate of the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.
