For Immediate Release: July 17, 2008
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole today applauded Committee approval of the fiscal year 2009 Energy and Water spending bill, which includes $1 million that Dole helped secure for the North Carolina Center for Automotive Research (NCCAR) in Jackson, N.C. NCCAR will use the funds to equip the Chassis Dynamic Laboratory, a research facility that focuses on fuel efficiency and alternative energy systems.
“ To lower gas prices and achieve energy independence we need to invest in innovative technologies that enhance fuel efficiency,” said Dole. “Not only does this project drive economic development and job creation in North Carolina, but it also contributes to America ’s energy security.”
“ This appropriation is exceptionally great news and clearly demonstrates Senator Dole’s leadership and commitment to developing ‘real world’ capability in meeting our national energy and economic development objectives,” said Gary Brown, President of the Board of Directors for NCCAR. “More fundamentally, this appropriation provides critical funding to take the project to another level.”
Once approved by the full Senate, the bill must be reconciled in conference with the House of Representatives-passed version of the bill. A final bill then will have to be approved by both the House and the Senate and go before the president for his signature.
